An empty washing basket for any family is a pretty rare occurrence.
If, on the odd occasion it does happen, it's usually just a matter of hours before something new is chucked in the wash - usually an item one of the kids has worn for a couple of hours and decided they'd rather put in there than hang it back up.
Sorting through it all before actually putting a wash on is a job I detest, or I should say detested.
That's because, at the end of my tether, on what could well be the millionth or more time I've separated the colours, from the whites, from the 'it could be eithers', enough was enough. There had to be a better way.

I've already copied many of her ideas to sort out my kitchen and my wardrobe, so I was pretty sure she'd have an answer to my laundry woes.
Her Tap to Tidy book includes all sorts of ideas, and it's in that where she shares the 'system' she has in place to make chores such as washing a damn sight easier.
The host of BBC show Sort Your Life Out explains how she bought three separate swing bins designed for rubbish and uses them as laundry bins to keep the lights, whites and darks separated.
She then has separate baskets for each person's washing, so it can be taken into their room to put away.
Rather than swing bins, I bought three laundry bags from B&M, costing a fiver each. They're much bigger than I initially thought and they each have a handle, which makes it even easier to carry it straight to the washing machine.
