Humza Yousaf has called for the House of Lords to be scrapped after Michelle Mone admitted lying about her involvement with a company in a PPE contracts row.
The First Minister said that the upper chamber of the UK Parliament was "undemocratic" and that "handing Peerages to party donors stinks to the high heavens".
It comes after Tory peer Michelle Mone admitted that she lied to journalists about her involvement in PPE Medpro, which was handed a UK Government contract of £200m to supply equipment in the early days of the pandemic.
Mone also admitted that she could benefit from the contract on BBC's Laura Kuenssberg show on Sunday.
The firm is currently being investigated by the National Crime Agency.
Yousaf tweeted after the interview aired: "The unelected House of Lords should be scrapped.
"Not only is it undemocratic, handing Peerages to party donors stinks to the high heavens. Abolish it."
Mone conceded she made an “error” in publicly denying her links to the firm but insisted that lying to the media is “not a crime”.
She admitted she is a beneficiary of her husband Doug Barrowman’s financial trusts, which hold around £60 million of profit from the deal, but said the couple have been made “scapegoats” for the Government’s wider failings over PPE.
Mone has repeatedly denied that she profited from the deal, which she first discussed with government ministers including Michael Gove.
She told the programme “If one day, if, God forbid, my husband passes away before me, then I am a beneficiary, as well as his children and my children, so, yes, of course.”
Mone said she did not mean to fool anyone, despite admitting the couple misled the press about their involvement.
“I did make an error in saying to the press that I wasn’t involved,”

Top party figures who supported the new law believe the game is up and will urge the First Minister to blow no more public cash on the case. The SNP Government suffered a humbling defeat in the Court of Session after a judge ruled Westminster had acted lawfully by blocking Holyrood’s Gender Recognition Reform (GRR) Act.
