The premiere episode, co-written by “Percy Jackson” author Rick Riordan, lays the groundwork of who Percy is, and the obstacles he’s faced thus far. The only child of a single mother, Sally (Virginia Kull), Percy has dealt with a slew of school expulsions, bullies and ADHD and dyslexia diagnoses. Finally, during a class field trip to the Met in New York City, he gets expelled from Yancy Academy after retaliating against a bully.
The rest of the series follows Percy (Walker Scobell) on a dangerous quest as he journeys across America to return Zeus’ (Lance Reddick) master bolt and stop an all-out war. With the help of his quest mates Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and his best friend Grover (Aryan Simhadri), Percy’s journey will lead him closer to the answers he seeks: how to fit into a world where he feels out of place, and find out who he’s destined to be. The series is based on Riordan’s beloved young-adult fantasy book series, which consists of five novels.

Selome Hailu SPOILER ALERT: This story contains spoilers for “We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium,” Episode 3 of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” For fans of Rick Riordan‘s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” books, Medusa represents one of Percy’s first big victories: After being tricked into spending time with “Aunty Em,” he beheads the snake-haired woman, and her cursed, dead eyeballs are later used to turn another enemy into stone. But for those with a deeper knowledge of Greek mythology, and for many women, Medusa is a symbol of something darker. On Sandra Hüller’s wall is the first piece of art she ever owned: a photograph she bought from a shop in Munich. “I won’t say its name,” she says archly, “because that would be advertising.” It’s a dynamic, joyous image showing the ensemble cast of Stravinsky’s ballet The Rite of Spring as staged by Pina Bausch, the German choreographer famous for saying, “Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost.” “I just love it,” Hüller says admiringly, turning her head for another look. “These people are all making the same movement, as you can see. But everybody is doing it completely differently. They have the same task, but you can see each personality in the way they’re doing it. I love it so much. It’s like they’re almost flying.” It explains a lot about Hüller and her craft.
