Home Alone star Ken Hudson Campbell, 61, has been diagnosed with cancer, with his family launching a fundraiser to try and help cover the huge costs. The beloved actor, who starred in the iconic Christmas film, revealed his cancer diagnosis and asked fans for financial support as he's set to undergo a 10-hour surgery to remove a cancerous tumour.
Ken needs to have a large portion of his jawbone removed in order to get to his cancerous tumour. He first announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer in October earlier this year after a tumour "elusively grew on the bottom of his mouth and began encroaching on his teeth." Ken, who has also featured in films including Armageddon and Groundhog Dog, appeared as the Santa in 1990’s Home Alone opposite Macaulay Culkin.
In an iconic moment of the film, Kevin McCallister asks him to take a festive message asking for his family to come back as the eight-year-old claims he knows Campbell’s Santa works for 'the real Santa'. Ken was diagnosed with cancer on October 27 after doctors found a tumour on the bottom of his mouth.’ The statement on the actor's GoFundMe page explained that he is set to undergo a 10-hour surgery on Thursday (December 7) to remove the tumour, which will also remove a significant part of his jawbone, along with lymph nodes and part of his leg bone – which will then be used to help reconstruct a new jaw.
After the invasive surgery, Ken will then need to have reconstruction surgery performed followed by multiple rounds of radiation and chemotherapy which all add up to a great expense. So far, the actor has reeled in $62,000 of his $100,000 going towards his health expenses and expects a 6-month-long recovery period.
