Maddy Smedley stole the hearts of the nation during her stint on BBC One show The Traitors, where, as a righteous Faithful, she was determined to identify the baddies in the castle. Despite her admirable sleuthing, she found time to regularly remind her fellow contestants that she’d once had a couple of minor acting roles – her favourite being a one-off appearance in EastEnders playing a homeless woman. Now the former care home worker is heading for the bright lights of Hollyoaks and is showing off her acting chops as a completely different character.
Maddy is making a guest appearance on the Channel 4 soap as Faye Fuller, a talent agent hired to work with influencer Rayne Royce (played by Jemma Donovan). “She’s trashy, sassy and a bit cutthroat,” Maddy says. “She’s a bit more brutal than me in real life.
She’s like Del Boy mixed with Deborah Meaden.” As well as EastEnders, Maddy landed small roles on Casualty before taking part in The Traitors. Hollyoaks, however, is her first guest star spot – and the first soap she’s filmed while pregnant. “The crew kept offering me chairs to sit down on and I was like, ‘Why are they doing that?’” the reality star, who’s expecting her first child with partner Tom in September, says.
“Then I realised, ‘Ah right. I’m actually carrying quite a load.’” Making her debut across two episodes, Maddy teases that Faye starts to notice Rayne’s “dark” side. The influencer has slowly become the show’s latest villain, isolating her boyfriend Romeo (Owen Warner) from his friends and making up false health problems. “In the end she realises, ‘Oh, you’ve been lying.’ The brutal elements of Rayne come out,” Maddy says.
