An 130-year-old pub in Cheshire has reopened following a major refurbishment - and its exterior now features a giant mural of Sir Winston Churchill.
Swan and Chequers, in Sandbach, started out life as an old corn exchange and is now unrecognisable following the substantial investment. After being shut for 12 months, it has reopened its doors and - alongside the new mural - its new look also features a Victorian London underground theme.
The mural of the former Prime Minister nods to the pub’s history and earlier links to the politician's speech on the balcony in 1945. The statesman is depicted smoking a cigar, alongside one of his famous quotes, which read: “If you’re going through hell, keep going.”

The new Churchill mural is just one new addition to the historic Sandbach boozer, which has been owned by Robinson’s for nearly 100 years. The new-look bar now seats 90 people inside, with space for a further 90 outside in the courtyard.
On approach to the pub, there are some subtle changes, with new outdoor lanterns and wrought iron gates. The original stained-glass windows have been refurbished and the projecting hotel sign has also been restored.
Meanwhile, the Victorian-hand-painted signage and traditional gold leaf window lettering give some clues to what lies inside. Interiors have been designed with a British mid-century era in mind, while columns have been added to the main bar area stylised with cast iron Corinthians capitals and floating poser tables.
