A hiker was left with 'lots of bruises' and a leg deformity after falling at a waterfall in Oldham on Thursday (April 14). The woman, who had been walking near Greenfield Brook, called 999 after falling and suffering multiple injuries.
However, due to the poor phone signal, the North West Ambulance Service struggled to locate where she was. The Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were drafted in and came across the woman, who had been aided by other walkers, close to Birchen Clough.
Despite self-rescuing with the help of others, and her husband, an assessment found the woman had suffered multiple injuries including a lower leg deformity. Shortly after, a rapid response vehicle arrived as well as paramedics, who took her to hospital.

She was later discharged, but has been left with 'lots of bruises' and a possible fractured ankle and ribs, the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team (OMRT) confirmed. Crews remained at the scene for two hours.
The OMRT said: "Oldham Mountain Rescue Team attended after a request from North West Ambulance Service for assistance with the location and treatment of the walker.
"Just as the working day was coming to an end on Wednesday, we received a request from North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust for assistance with the location and treatment of a female who had made a 999 call asking for help but, due to the patchy phone signal, the only details available were that she was near Greenfield Brook. At this point, we had no proper location information or injury details.
"The team was called out and the fast party heading up towards Birchen Clough came across the female on the track above Greenfield Reservoir.
