Here's Why Pat Sajak Gave Out Extra Money on His Final 'Wheel of Fortune' Episode

The contestants on Pat Sajak‘s final episode of Wheel of Fortune were all gifted some extra money!
The longtime host of the syndicated game show has been leading the series since 1981 and he said goodbye during the episode that aired on June 7, 2024. He hosted the show for more than 8,000 episodes!
Pat revealed at the beginning of the show that they would be cutting one round of gameplay in order to make time for him to share closing remarks at the end of the episode.
To compensate the contestants for missing out on a round, Pat said he would spin the wheel and add $1,000 to the amount he landed on, and then he’d give that total amount to each of the contestants. Well, they received something even better!

Pat landed on the $1,000 space, which meant he would be giving away $2,000 to each contestant. Instead, he rounded the number up to $5,000.
“You know what? It’s not my money,” he said. “Let’s give them all $5,000! Little Jimmy’s surgery can wait.”
