Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has announced details of his debut solo album ‘Radio Songs’ and shared new single ‘Devil’s Island’.The record, which is released via Cooking Vinyl on January 23, 2023, was produced by Leo Abrahams, who has previously worked with Wild Beasts, Brian Eno, Ghostpoet.“The idea of Radio Songs is me spinning through the dial,” he said. “It sounds like you’ve got a radio tuned to some static and you spin the dial, and the song pops out of it.

The War On Drugs have shared two previously unreleased songs, ‘Oceans Of Darkness’ and ‘Slow Ghost’ – scroll down the page to listen to them now.The tracks have been given an official release as part of a new deluxe edition of ‘I Don’t Live Here Anymore’, which was originally released last year.Both tracks were cut from the original tracklist, but now have arrived on streaming services for the first time. They are also available as part of a limited edition seven-inch and a cassette tape version of the album.‘Oceans Of Darkness’ is a driving, bright song that finds frontman Adam Granduciel singing: “I was tired of waiting / Pulling along / Feeling misunderstood / When I throw it away / Into these oceans of darkness / Come pulling me back for good.” ‘Slow Ghost’, meanwhile, takes a slower, softer form, Granduciel singing gently over melancholy guitar melodies.

The Mars Volta played their first live show in over 10 years, treating fans in their home state of Texas to a stacked showcase of new songs, classics and rarities – including the first-ever performance of their 2006 track ‘Vicarious Atonement’.The latter song opened the set – which The Mars Volta performed at the 4,300-capacity Factory in Deep Ellum – setting the scene for Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala to deliver the first performances of ‘Roulette Dares’ and ‘Eriatarka’ (both from their 2003 debut as The Mars Volta, ‘De-Loused In The Comatorium’) since 2010.They followed those up with the first of two songs showcased from their self-titled comeback album, ‘Graveyard Love’, before throwing back to 2005’s ‘Frances The Mute’ with ‘L’Via L’Viaquez’ – also played live for the first time since 2010.Other rarities included ‘Drunkship Of Lanterns’ and ‘Viscera Eyes’ (the former being another ‘Comatorium’ cut while the latter, like ‘Vicarious Atonement’, came from 2006’s ‘Amputechture’) – both of which hadn’t been played since 2009 – as well as the first performance of ‘Comatorium’ standout ‘Televators’ since 2007. Ethan Shanfeld As the Arctic Monkeys waltzed onstage at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre Thursday night, they were met with such rapturous applause and overwhelming screams that when Alex Turner sat at the piano and sang, “Don’t get emotional,” it was as if he was speaking directly to the audience. While the band opened the show with new single “There’d Better Be a Mirrorball,” which came out just a few weeks ago, the crowd embraced it like an old classic. As Turner sang the song’s title for the final time, in falsetto, a giant disco ball lowered from the ceiling and lit up the exuberant Kings Theatre.  To be clear: there’s good reason for the Monkeymania. Thursday’s show marked the band’s first headlining concert in the U.S. since 2018, and even though their seminal album “AM” came out nearly a decade ago (feel old?), the Tumblr-era thirst for Turner is still very much alive. The audience erupted in shouts at the frontman’s every move — cheering when he ditched his guitar for “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?,” when he hoisted the mic stand above his head during “Arabella” and, of course, when he snarled between songs, “How’s everybody doing,” in a British accent thicker than the bass tone on “Crying Lightning.”
