EXCLUSIVE: The Philippines‘ Star Cinema and GMA Pictures are teaming up to produce Hello, Love, Again, the sequel to blockbuster hit Hello, Love, Goodbye.
The 2019 original film was the highest-grossing Philippine film of all time, until it was surpassed by Rewind in January this year.
Veteran actress Kathryn Bernardo and actor Alden Richards will be reprise their characters, Joy and Ethan, in Hello, Love, Again. Director Cathy Garcia-Sampana, who helmed the original film, will also direct the sequel, which will be shot in Canada.
The film’s theatrical release is set for November 13 this year in the Philippines, with international releases following thereafter.
Mild spoiler: Hello, Love, Again will be set five years on from when Joy (Kathryn Bernardo) said goodbye to Ethan (Alden Richards) and Hong Kong to pursue her dreams in Canada. After fighting for their love to conquer the time, distance and a global shutdown that kept them apart, Joy and Ethan meet again in Canada but realize that they have also changed a lot, individually.
This will be the first collaboration on a film between ABS-CBN’s film production outfit Star Cinema and GMA Network’s film production company GMA Pictures.
Parent companies ABS-CBN and GMA have collaborated on two shows to date as part of a wide-ranging content pact: Legacy variety show It’s Showtime in April this year as well as drama series Unbreak My Heart last year. After exiting the broadcast business in 2020, ABS-CBN has collaborated with former network rival GMA on several occasions, as part of the company’s strategic pivot towards content production.
