Gemma Atkinson has invited Helen Skelton to her house in the hopes of squashing the infamous “Strictly Curse” rumours that seemingly spring up each time a new series comes out. The former Emmerdale actress is engaged to professional dancer Gorka Marquez who this year has been paired with TV presenter Helen Skelton on Strictly Come Dancing.
But the 36 year old actress is not one to buy into the Strictly curse rumours and instead is looking to be friends with her partner’s dance partner. The Strictly curse is the idea that anyone dancing together during the show will ultimately cheat on their partners. Sources close to Gemma say she’s hoping to build a friendship with Helen, 39, whom she described as having a grounded nature.
"A lot of Gemma's mates were wondering if she would be worried about the Strictly curse but she laughs it off and just wants to embrace Helen into the family and support her,” an Insider told Heat Magazine. They continued: "Gemma doesn't want the endless speculation about the curse, she absolutely trusts Gorka and thinks that Helen is a sweetheart.
"She's being extremely positive and encouraging of the pairing and wants them to go all the way." Following the first episode, Gemma posted a gushing tribute to Gorka, 32, and Helen, who danced the American Smooth for judges Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas. She wrote to her 1.8m followers: "C'mon!!! Go out there and shine Helen! You're gonna have the most amazing time on Strictly! Will be rooting for you both.” Helen replied to the cute photo with “we need a wine xxx” alongside a series of heart emojis.
