Rashford’s poor form has not helped the Red Devils, who only have the FA Cup final as a source of optimism in an otherwise woeful season. And former Watford striker Deeney believes Rashford is allowed “to get away with” his current level of application due to a lack of leaders in United’s dressing room.
Speaking to Simon Jordan and Graeme Souness on Three Up Front by William Hill, Deeney said: “[If I were United’s manager] I’d have a serious chat with Marcus. I think Marcus Rashford can be who you build a team around but you need to get some bloody good pros around him to hold him accountable.
“Whenever Marcus is in the paper, he delivers and scores. Whenever Marcus is out of the team, he comes in and delivers and scores.
