HBO Shows Could Start Appearing On Netflix, Other Shows in Discussion

There won’t be a TCA Summer Tour this year, but the Television Critics Association is out with the nominees for its 39th annual TCA Awards. Wrapped HBO Emmy winner Succession, sophomore FX dramedy The Bear and HBO’s freshman drama The Last of Us lead the field with five noms each. See the full list below.

Angelique Jackson Raedio, the “audio everywhere” company under Issa Rae’s Hoorae, is set to launch its first talk show, “The Scottie & Sylvia Show,” hosted by industry veterans Scottie Beam and Sylvia Obell. The original podcast series joins Raedio’s award-winning shows “Fruit,” “Looking for Latoya” and “We Stay Looking,” and marks a return to the mic for Beam and Obell following their successful team-up on the popular “Okay, Now Listen” podcast. On the new show, which launches in July, the pair of hosts — and best friends — will discuss trending and cultural topics accompanied by celebrity interviews from their unique perspective as Black Millennial women.

In addition, all four shows are set to be removed from the streaming service in the coming days. “The Paramount+ series ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,’ ‘Star Trek: Prodigy,’ ‘Queen of the Universe’ and ‘The Game’ have completed their runs on Paramount+ and will not be returning to the service,” a Paramount+ spokesperson said. “We want to extend our thanks to our tremendously talented cast and crew and our producing partners for their passionate work and dedication on these programs, and we wish them all the best on their future endeavors.”

Tomorrow X Together (TXT) are set to collaborate with the Jonas Brothers on a brand-new single called ‘Do It Like That’.TXT’s label Big Hit Music announced today (June 22) that the K-pop boyband would collaborate with the Jonas Brothers on the upcoming single ‘Do It Like That’. The track will be released on July 7 at 1pm KST.“This top-tier collaboration was achieved when TXT visited the United States as a part of their world tour,” the agency said of the upcoming song, per Korea JoongAng Daily.“After listening to the demo track for ‘Do It Like That,’ the band members were eager to have the song released in Summer, and the Jonas Brothers joined the boyband without hesitation,” it addedPrior to the song’s release, the two groups will also release a concept photo and an official music video teaser on June 28 and July 5, respectively.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a CEO in the film and TV industry to have such an immediate impact as David Zaslav over at Warner Bros. Discovery.

Jordan Moreau In a turnaround for the streaming wars, Warner Bros. Discovery is in negotiations to license a package of library HBO titles to Netflix. If a deal were to go through, it would cement the sea-change in content distribution strategy afoot at Warner Bros. Discovery under the David Zaslav regime. HBO has licensed library content in the past — a deal with Netflix would not be groundbreaking per se, but it is notable in the era of pitched competition among the largest media companies to build direct-to-consumer streaming platforms. Netflix, the upstart outsider from Los Gatos, has been the pace car for television’s transition over the past decade.

Then the real competition begins.  This year, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards will present its first statue for outstanding game show. Previously, game shows were honored during the Daytime Emmys, where “Jeopardy” has claimed 11 of the last 20 years of awards.  But in 2021, the New York-based National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which handles the Daytime Emmys, and the L.A.-based Television Academy, which handles the Primetime Emmys, decided to bring game shows into the primetime heat.
