HBO Documentary Films Sets Mid-7-Figure Deal On ‘Siempre, Luis’, Sundance Pic On Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Dad

For any Lin-Manuel Miranda fans whose hearts sank almost as quickly as they rose upon hearing that, yes, there’s a “Hamilton” movie, and no, it won’t be out for another 20 months, succor may be on the way in the form of a probably faster-arriving movie that features Miranda in almost as big a role, playing himself.

The 2020 Oscars took an odd turn Sunday (Feb. 9) evening when Hamilton/A Star Is Born actor Anthony Ramos appeared to introduce… an introduction by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who set up a montage of iconic moments where Hollywood and radio hits have shared the screen over the years.

The hit Pulitzer prize-winning musical, Hamilton, has a massive fan base across the world but only a few have actually experienced Lin Manuel Miranda’s hit musical in all its glory. Making the iconic musical more accessible, Disney is all set to release a film of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical and it will feature the original Broadway cast.

Hamilton is coming to the big screen. The Walt Disney Studios will release a film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit musical on Friday, October 15, 2021. The movie will feature numerous members of the original cast, including Miranda (reprising his leading role as Alexander Hamilton), Daveed Diggs (Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson), Renée Elise Goldsberry (Angelica Schuyler), and Leslie Odom, Jr. (Aaron Burr).

is making the leap from the stage to screen thanks to an upcoming presentation of the original Broadway production created by and starring Lin-Manuel Miranda.

HBO Documentary Films has picked up the worldwide television and streaming rights to doc feature Siempre, Luisabout the work of Luis Miranda, the father of Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda, in his native Puerto Rico.Luis A. Miranda Jr., a Puerto Rican migrant who helped shape New York politics for over three decades, left Puerto Rico for New York City in the 1970s.The doc follows Miranda over the course of a year, as his devotion to family and country propel him forward.

The 2020 Oscars just got some comic relief.

Sony Pictures Classics has teamed with Sony’s Stage 6 Films to oversee the global release of Heidi Ewing’s feature narrative debut “I Carry You With Me (Te Llevo Conmigo),” a gay love story about two men who immigrate to the United States. The deal follows the movie’s enthusiastic reception at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The romantic drama debuted to multiple standing ovations in Park City, where it was shown in the NEXT section. It will be released later this year.

The countdown is on for the 2020 Oscars on Sunday, Feb. 9. 

Lin-Manuel Miranda is having a busy Sundance. The prolific playwright is in Park City, Utah this week as the interview subject of three documentaries — “Siempre, Luis,” “We Are Freestyle Love Supreme” and “Mucho Mucho Amour” — all premiering at this year’s film festival.

Aline Brosh McKenna has signed a three year overall deal with ABC Studios.
