While some people may find joy in making sure that their home is as spotless as can be, for others, housework holds no appeal. And now a new study has uncovered some rather shocking findings about just how far some people will go when it comes to putting off their dreaded chores. According to research by Pizuna Linens, almost half of single men in the UK don’t wash their bed sheets for up to four months at a time.
The study, which was carried out on 2,250 adults over the age of 18, found that only 29% of single men washed their bedding every two weeks. What’s more, 12% admitted to only getting the chore done whenever they remembered, meaning that the period could be longer. By comparison 62% of single women reported changing their bedding at least every two weeks. When it comes to couples, men in relationships do better than their single counterparts as 35% of couples typically wash their sheets every three weeks.
While it may seem unforgiving to go four months without refreshing bedding, common reasons for ignoring the chore included forgetfulness, not being bothered and having no other clean linen to use. According to experts, it's recommended that you wash different parts of your bedding after different periods of time. As a general reference, pillowcases, sheets and duvet covers should be washed every week while blankets and duvets should be cleaned every two-three months.
