He's kept his condition and treatment under wraps since first sharing the news. Now, the famous chef has given fans an update while appearing on his Agony Uncles podcast as he told pal Si King, 55, that he misses his beard.
"I just miss having my beard, the feeling of it, because your skin's different and all peachy. I'm missing my beard, but doing alright. I was born with that beard," Dave explained.
He added: "No, I want my beard back – I'm alright with my hair! I think the bald head and beard is the way to go for a biker as you're getting on." And when a listener said: "Hope you're feeling okay Dave!" – the star took the opportunity to share a small update as he said: "Under the circumstances, I'm doing alright." Prior to this, Si told fans at the Bolton Food and Drink Festival that Dave is "in the trenches" but that he is "getting there" as he undergoes chemotherapy for his cancer. Si said: "I just wanted to say, from Dave and I, thank you so so very much for all of the goodwill and support, all the messages really do not go unnoticed. "He's doing canny but as you appreciate he's right in the trenches of it all at the minute but he's getting there, thank God." Revealing his cancer diagnosis back in May on their podcast, Dave shared that he didn't want to "hide under a rock".
He told listeners: "I've got to come clean now. I haven’t been too well recently and, basically, I’ve got to have some chemo. I may be a baldy biker for a while it’s simply something I have to live with.
