Golden Globes 2022 ceremony officially cancelled by NBC

Tom Cruise is said to have returned his Golden Globes and NBC will not broadcast next year's ceremony following criticism towards the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). The 58-year-old actor has reportedly sent three accolades back to the HQ of the organisation - whose members vote on the accolades presented at the Golden Globes - after it came under fire for a lack of diversity.

In the latest blow to the world-famous awards, actor Tom Cruise has unceremoniously returned his three Golden Globes.

After Hollywood actors such as Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Cruise and more stood up against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for not taking diversity and inclusion more seriously, NBC  announced on Monday that it will not air the Golden Globes in 2022. The decision comes following HFPA's failure to make significant reforms.

Refresh for Updates…After NBC put more pressure on the beleaguered HFPA, to demand reform within the organization, by announcing that it would not be airing the 2022 Golden Globes, reactions from entertainment industry figures quickly started flooding in.

In a recent chain of events, NBC has altogether canceled the 2022 Golden Globes amidst the intense scrutiny surrounding Hollywood Foreign Press Association. During the 2021 broadcast of Golden Globes, HFPA members addressed the issue regarding lack of cultural diversity as there was not one black member in all of the jury consisting of international journalists.

“Regardless of the next air date of the Golden Globes, implementing transformational changes as quickly — and as thoughtfully — as possible remains the top priority,” the board says.

Netflix and Amazon cut ties with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association last week.
