(CNN)When it comes to pronouncing a bunch of names early in the morning, it's kind of hard being Snoop D-O-double G.The rapper/actor and arguably the best Olympics commentator ever was a surprise guest Monday at the announcement of the nominations for the Golden Globe Awards.Rocking a red cap and a pair of shades indoors (as one does when one is a superstar), Snoop read off the names with smooth flair and a few pretty funny mispronunciations.

The 2022 Golden Globe nominations have officially been announced with hit TV shows like "Hacks" and "Only Murders in the Building" getting recognition alongside movies like "Belfast" and "Dune."  Thanks to Netflix's far international reach with streaming, foreign-language TV hits like "Lupin" and "Squid Game" were given nominations after getting mainstream attention on the platform.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association wasn't shy about addressing its diversity scandal while announcing its 2022 Golden Globe nominations.  A large shadow was cast across this year's Golden Globe nominations after NBC announced it wouldn't broadcast the show until it addressed some key issues it was having when it came to the diversity of its voting pool. The press association, often ridiculed, even by its own hosts, this year went from punchline to pariah.

The show must go on. The list of nominees for the 79th Golden Globe Awards were released on Monday, December 13, after NBC previously announced that it will not air the show due to the scandal with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

NBC has decided not to air the telecast.The mega-network cut ties with the organization and will not be involved in next year’s awards show upon deciding its parent corporation, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, needs “meaningful reform.”NBC announced the news back in May, issuing the statement, “We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right.

Golden Globe Awards despite the broadcast of the ceremony being dropped by NBC and ongoing controversy surrounding the organization. According to the HFPA, it has “completely overhauled their bylaws, implementing sweeping changes from top to bottom that address ethics and code of conduct, diversity, equity and inclusion, governance, membership and more.” During that time, it has diversified its membership with the induction of 21 new members, “all of whom are first-time Golden Globe voters.”This

Does an awards show exist in a vacuum? If there is no telecast to showcase it does it matter? If studios and networks are expected to ignore it is it even worthy of anyone’s attention? Those are just some of the questions facing the 2022 Golden Globes. An awards show or ceremony (we’ll see) that no one was expecting after personal publicists and the industry as a whole demanded changes from its governing body, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, this spring and summer.
