Gogglebox fans astonished to discover Pete and Sophie are related to Chuckle Brothers

Gogglebox fans were extremely surprised to discover that show favourites Pete and Sophie Sandiford and related to Chuckle Brothers duo, Paul and Barry Elliott. Siblings Pete and Sophie are well-loved for their banter on the Channel 4 show, and many Gogglebox viewers hadn’t realised they’ve inherited their humour from their great uncles, Paul and Barry.The comedy double act were well-known faces on British television following the release of popular BBC children’s programme ChuckleVision, which first aired in 1987. As well as ChuckleVision, the two brothers featured on shows like The Good Old Days and The Freddie Starr Showcase, as well as carrying out a stage tour in 2010 titled An Audience with the Chuckle Brothers.
Sadly Barry passed away in 2018 aged 73 following a period of ill health. Meanwhile, Paul now spends his days doing DJ sets. Sharing a snap with Sophie and Pete on Twitter in 2019, Paul wrote next to it: “This day 2018 with my great niece and nephew @PeteandSophie #Gogglebox”.
Gogglebox fans were quick to comment their surprise at the TV stars being related. “Ahh I didn’t know you guy were related ! Makes sense now, they’re the funniest on gogglebox,” wrote one person, as another said: “Nooo?! How fabulous and totally makes sense....now I know why you both make me chuckle so much”. Another person penned: “Whaaaaattttt????? My heads just melted!!!!!!!,” as a fourth person wrote: “You are related to the chuckle brothers? You are legends”.
