A surge in global gas prices has left energy companies struggling and consumers concerned about rising bills.
Wholesale prices for gas have surged 250 per cent since January, with a 70 per cent rise since August alone.
The rising gas prices have also threatened to disrupt the food supply chain leading to warnings that shop shelves could be left bare in the coming weeks.
