The last bank holiday of the summer falls on Monday for people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. However, it will also affect people in Scotland expecting payments from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) or HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) on that day.
No changes to payments due from Social Security Scotland have been announced and they are expected to be made as planned. The DWP said the change is because all offices and phone lines will be closed on Monday, so payments will be made on a day when they are open, in case anyone needs to contact them to query their claim, or the money does not arrive.
The change to payments will only affect those due on Monday, August 28. This means people scheduled to receive State Pension, Universal Credit, Child Benefit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Attendance Allowance, Tax Credits and other benefit payments on that date will see the money land in their accounts on Friday, August 25.
HMRC announced changes to payment dates earlier this month and DWP confirmed similar arrangements in a recent issue of the Touchbase newsletter.
The DWP said: “On Monday 28 August offices and phone lines are closed. To make sure people get their payment on a day when Jobcentre Plus offices are open, some payments will be paid early. To align with the bank holiday in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, DWP offices and phone lines in Scotland will also be closed on Monday, August 28.”
Only payments from DWP and HMRC due to be made on Monday, August 28, will be paid on Friday, August 25.
If your benefit is not listed above, there will be no change to your payment date.
Just a reminder, that the bank holiday is not expected to affect any devolved payments due to be made by Social Security
