His career began in 1968 at Radio 2, before in 1971 he made the move to television. At the time of his death, he had commentated on over 2000 games across radio and TV.
John lived with wife Anne in Little Brickhill, Buckinghamshire. They were married for 43 years. They have a son together, Frederick.
Pulp bassist Steve Mackey's shock death came on March 2 aged just 56. He had been in hospital for several months with an undisclosed illness. Steve joined Pulp in 1989 he was with the band as they shot to stardom throughout the 90s before departing in 2002.
After this he went into song-writing and producing, going on to produce songs and albums by the likes of M. I. A.
, Florence + the Machine, The Long Blondes and Arcade Fire. He lived in North London with his wife Katie Grand and son Marley. Paul O'Grady, the TV star also known for his drag queen persona Lily Savage, died 'unexpectantly but peacefully' at the age of 67 on March 29.
His partner Andre Portasio, who married the presenter in 2017, said in a statement that morning: "It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening. ""We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss.
