Sacha Lord has written to the developers behind food hub Hatch in a bid to ask them to extend their notice period for vendors.
Last week, Bruntwood announced that Hatch, located on the Oxford Road Corridor, will close on September 30 with the site already earmarked for redevelopment as part of leisure chain STACK. Vendors claimed they were given just a month’s notice of the news, giving them little time to find new premises to operate from.
Lord, Manchester’s night time economy advisor and co-founder of Parklife and the Warehouse Project, described the month’s notice for staff and vendors on Friday (September 1) as ‘very poor’. Traders at Hatch include Herbivorous, It's A Nail Thing, Block Steak Shop, Kong's Burger Bar and Parmogeddon.

He has now written directly to Chris Oglesby, the Chief Executive Officer of Bruntwood. In the letter, Lord warned that the loss of Hatch will 'leave a huge hole in our sector's opportunities for development' and urged for more notice to be given to staff.
“Four weeks is simply not long enough for workers to find new employment opportunities," Lord said in the letter, which the M.E.N has seen.
"I know you will have considered the planned closure carefully, and it would have been helpful if more notice could have been given to employees and operators to allow them time for a managed transition, whether to a new site, or to find new employment. Equally, operators have invested heavily in their sites at Hatch, some very recently, and will now lose those investments."
Following the news of Hatch’s impending closure, Lord put out an offer inviting Hatch staff to join the Warehouse Project

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Nia Vardalos is gearing up to release “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” in theaters, but helming and starring in a beloved rom-com trilogy was probably not something her first Hollywood agent thought was possible for her. In an interview with MovieMaker magazine (conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike), Vardalos revealed her first agent told her she was too ugly to be a leading lady in Hollywood. This was before she became an industry breakout with the success of 2002’s “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” “Sometimes I’m depicted as this very strong person who was rejected by Hollywood and therefore created my own story,” Vardalos said.
