Thousands of rail workers across the country will stage a fresh wave of industrial action amid a long-running dispute over pay and jobs.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, which represents 40,000 workers across Network Rail and 14 train operators, will stage a nationwide strike on March 16, the first of four upcoming strike dates. It comes after the RMT rejected employer offers as "they did not meet the needs of members on pay, job security or working conditions".
The strike action being undertaken by union members will include an overtime ban in a bid to stagger maintenance and operations work. The union has indicated that it is seeking an unconditional offer from rail operators and Network Rail.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: "Rail employers are not being given a fresh mandate by the government to offer our members a new deal on pay, conditions and job security. Therefore, our members will now take sustained and targeted industrial action over the next few months.
"The government can settle this dispute easily by unshackling the rail companies. However, its stubborn refusal to do so will now mean more strike action across the railway network and a very disruptive overtime ban.
"Ministers cannot continue to sit on their hands hoping this dispute will go away as our members are fully prepared to fight tooth and nail for a negotiated settlement in the months ahead."
According to the RMT, workers will go on strike against 14 train operating companies on the following days:
Meanwhile, Network Rail members will go on strike between 2am on March 16 and 1.59 am on March 17.

Reese Witherspoon is looking bad with warm at her experience shooting Walk the Line while reflecting on her new project, Daisy Jones & The Six.Witherspoon walked the carpet on Thursday at the Los Angeles premiere of the new Prime Video series, on which she serves as an executive producer, and she stopped to talk with ET's Nischelle Turner about the fun new musical dramedy.«Taylor Jenkins Reid wrote the most amazing novel and it read like a movie or a television show, like just episodic. And it felt like this is a time period that people are obsessed with but we haven't seen something in this time period in so long,» Witherspoon said, recalling what drew her to bringing the project to TV. «It just was so ready to be the best television show ever.»The mini-series details the meteoric rise to fame of the titular rock band, Daisy Jones & The Six, during the 1970s Los Angeles music scene, and their inevitable fall as fame spins them out of control. The stars of the series — including Riley Keough, Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse, and more -- also perform some original tunes, written by the fictional band, that have been released as singles in real life.
Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor David Zaslav sounds tired of taking lumps. After months of cost cutting, write-downs, and getting pilloried among Hollywood natives for killing projects, the Warner Bros. Discovery chief showed off some new truculence, making the case that while his newly-merged company has been having a tough time, so too were others. “‘Last year was a year of restructuring,” said Zaslav, during a call with investors Thursday. “This year will be a year of building.” Over the course of an hour, Zasalv and Gunnar Wiedenfels, Warner’s chief financial officer, made the case that their company was just as well-equipped as any of its rivals — perhaps even more so — to withstand a stormy era during which media companies are pressed to grow their streaming operations but maintain profitability. Zaslav elbowed Netflix for releasing all of the episodes for a program’s cycle all at once; suggested that a move to launch new “Lord of the Rings” movies would take away some of the momentum that Amazon had enjoyed from its launch of a series based on the novels; and told listeners Warner Bros. Discovery could launch an ad-supported streaming service without having to buy an outside asset, as Fox Corp. and Paramount Global had. “We can create a Tubi or a Pluto without having to buy anybody,” he boasted.
New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Pictures have hammered out a new multi-year agreement with Embracer Group AB’s Middle-Earth Enterprises to team on new The Lord of the Rings movies. Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav dropped the news Thursday during the company’s call to discuss its Q4 2022 earnings results.

NME was not shown any more information on how these operators might be equipped or the gadgets they might entail.Brava will join Brazillian colleagues Capitao and Caviera, while there are already two Korean operators in Dokkabei and Vigil. However, there hasn’t been a Swedish operator in the game since the original franchise’s Annika Lofquist – a deep cut if Ubisoft were to bring her back – and there has never been a Portuguese operator, so it’s a chance for players from those countries to play operators from those two places. At the Rainbow Six Siege world championship the Six Invitational, a heap of information on both new operation Commanding Force and Ubisoft’s upcoming plans for the next year has been revealed.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry like to think they are just regular people, you know, you and me trying to figure a way through the minefield of life. We know this, simply because they were honored at the recent Ripple of Hope Award Gala, which they picked up for racism within the Royal family no less, Harry produced this lame joke that he and Meghan were having a "date night," as with two children this was an opportunity to get out and enjoy each other’s company. Then he laughed like a drain with the audience. This came off as a pre-rehearsed and badly executed plot to show Harry and Meghan's fun, playful side, and my how we have missed that from Harry, right? It flopped badly, along with the fake laugh that Meghan offered and was so rehearsed.
