Forensic tent and cordon in place after woman raped outside retail park

A forensic tent was erected beside a road in Leigh on Wednesday (May 22) after reports that a woman was raped. Police were called to a report of the concern for the welfare of a woman along Parsonage Way, beside Parsonage Retail Park, at around 6.10am.
Detectives investigating the incident believe the victim was raped - with a man in his 40s arrested suspicion of rape at the scene. He remains in custody to be questioned.
Police said 'a number of lines of enquiry' are being followed up and that the victim is currently being supported by specialist services. Anyone with information is urged to contact the force.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called to a report of the concern for welfare of a woman on Parsonage Way in Leigh just after 6.10am this morning (Wednesday 22 May 2024).
"From initial enquiries, detectives believe that the woman was raped and a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of rape at the scene. He remains in police custody for questioning.
