Florida woman accused of abandoning 3-month-old on doorstep

A restaurant in Florida will pay tens of thousands of dollars in back wages to its employees over alleged minimum wage and overtime violations, according to the U.S.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office this week went the extra mile to help some kids stuck at home because of the coronavirus pandemic.  Deputies from West Boynton Beach on Tuesday stopped by a few homes to deliver school meals to kids doing virtual schooling.  The sheriff’s office said that they were inspired to delivery the food after hearing from a few kids that the thing they miss most from school is lunch. Many of the families are dependent on school lunches, the sheriff’s office said.

Florida State University stands near the top of the list for coronavirus-stricken colleges in the state and its popular nightlife provides a glimpse into how it made it to the number three spot -- thanks to images shared across social media by bars, nightclubs and students.  The school recently came in as the 19th-best public university in the country, according to US News and World Report – but the Princeton Review also ranked it the 19th-best party school.

Florida investigators are seeking the killers who kidnapped, tortured, and fatally shot two truckers in Miami-Dade over the weekend.   Police said the assailants kidnapped Osmar Oliva, 50, who owned Oliva Delivery Corp., and Johan Gonzalez Quesada, 26, then tied their hands and tortured them for hours in the back of a moving-type truck before shooting them in the head and leaving them in a yard in Opa-locka, which is near Miami, the Miami Herald reported.

The Sunshine State is a bit dimmer this morning. Fort Lauderdale, one of Florida’s biggest cities, has been declared the most unsafe in America according to a new survey from WalletHub.

Florida police on Monday raided the home of a former state data scientist who claimed she was fired from the Department of Health for refusing to doctor coronavirus figures. Rebekah Jones posted a video on Twitter showing officers with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement drawing their guns as they entered her house in Tallahassee.

Police in Florida conducted a raid on Monday at the home of a former Florida Department of Health employee who built the state’s COVID-19 case tracker only to be fired earlier this year for alleged insubordination. The former employee, Rebekah Jones, published footage on her Twitter account which showed officers with their guns drawn entering the house.The former state employee said the officers “pointed a gun in my face” and “pointed guns at my kids” during the encounter.

The eastern third of the country will see another round of wet weather on Monday as an area of low pressure develops off the Southeast and brings a wet start to the week from Florida to the Carolinas.  It will be cold enough for snow on the backside of this system over the MidAtlantic. Conditions will improve later Monday afternoon as the system moves offshore.

Two young siblings playing miniature golf were killed when a vehicle drove onto the course and hit them, according to the Panama City News Herald. The 4-year-old boy and his 6-year-old sister were on vacation and putting with family members at the Coconut Creek Family Fun Park in Panama City Beach when tragedy struck.

A Florida judge granted bond to a woman accused of killing her husband five years ago and burying the body under a firepit she built in the backyard, according to a report. Laurie Shaver, 38, has been behind bars since her September arrest in the 2015 death of her 36-year-old husband, Michael Shaver, a Disney World mechanic,  WOFL, the Fox owned station in Orlando, reported.

Florida deputies have accused a homeless man of sexual assaulting a woman who let him stay in her home for the night. Pinellas County deputies said Clark Caplan, 44, was looking for a place to spend the night around midnight on Thanksgiving when he knocked on the woman’s door in St.

Former NFL All-Pro wide receiver Chad Johnson is known for going the extra mile for restaurant workers, and he spread more good tidings at an eatery on Friday. Johnson was in Jacksonville, Fla., apparently getting ready for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns game on Sunday, according to News 4 Jax.

Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard is revealing why he briefly unfollowed his bandmate, Brian Kelley. During an interview with Sirius XM's podcast , Hubbard explained that the unfollow came amid the recent election.Hubbard's wife, Hayley Hubbard, expressed excitement on Instagram after the race was called for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

The NFL is currently looking into a dispute involving Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown and his homeowners association that began back in August over a landscaping issue.  Reports surfaced earlier in the week that Brown had allegedly destroyed a security camera and threw his bicycle at the security gate of his luxury development in Hollywood, Fla., in October after being asked to escort a guest inside.
