A couple who tragically drowned in their car after being submerged in flood water have been named locally.
Philip and Elaine Marco are believed to have died after becoming trapped in a black Mercedes in deep flood water in Liverpool on Sunday, August 27.
Emergency services raced to Queens Drive in Mossley Hill at around 9.20pm on Saturday after reports of a concern for the safety of a man and a woman.
Tragically the couple were found trapped inside their car by emergency services the following day. They were rushed to hospital, however they were pronounced dead, reports Liverpool Echo.
Their next of kin have been informed. The victims have now been named locally as married couple Philip and Elaine Marco.
Paying tribute to the couple, one friend said: "Terrible tragedy with the passing of our dear friends, Philip & Elaine Marco. May Hashem heal the torn hearts of their children and grandchildren. A huge loss to our community."
Another said: "Baruch Dayan HaEmet. My thoughts and prayers are with their family and the whole community."
A third said: "RIP Elaine and Philip xxx."
Liverpool City Council said Queens Drive is expected to remain closed for some time while an investigation takes place and drivers are asked to continue to avoid the area. The news has prompted many tributes and messages of condolences from people across the region.
Debbie Mills said: "Terribly, terribly sad reading this, it's been flooding for years. Absolutely horrific for the two people who have sadly lost their lives, just awful."
