She wrote her memoir, Firefly Lane, for Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Marah (Yael Yurman).
She anticipated that Tully would be too devastated to attend her memorial service and put together a heartfelt and hilarious “coping box” for her best friend. And she told Johnny she wanted him to find happiness again.The ending—although devastatingly emotional—was also incredibly uplifting and hopeful. It followed Kristin Hannah's book, even though showrunner/executive producer Maggie Friedman that Kate wouldn't necessarily meet the same fate.
“She may not. Everything is open,” Friedman told Glamour at the time. “All of that is still up in the air, and the answers will come in the last seven episodes.” (And with that said, we wouldn't have wanted to know ahead of time.)For Sarah Chalke, the second half of season two contained her favorite episodes of the series.
“It was a really special job,” she says. “I'm so sad it's over. To have this experience is such a gift.”Now that the series has come to an end—though Chalke says she'd love to come back as a figment of Tully's imagination should there ever be a way to resurrect the series—the actor fills us in on those final days and saying goodbye.
