“Roxanne,” “Every Breath You Take” and “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free” anymore. But the former Police frontman isn’t about to go chasing the charts in his golden years.“I’m 71 now, so my music has to reflect who I am, so I’m not desperately trying to get on the K-pop charts,” Sting told Music Week. “But there’s something about being a young musician, a young songwriter; it’s just kind of balls to the wall, let’s go for it. That energy is something that you can’t discount.”The English rock icon will become an Ivors Academy Fellow in London on May 18, receiving the highest honor from the songwriting organization.“Songwriting is a craft, and the Ivor Novello is its guild, if you like, so to be invited to be part of the fellowship is a great honor and one I don’t take for granted at all,” said Sting, who was born Gordon Sumner.Despite no longer trying to keep up with the BTS’s of the world, the 17-time Grammy winner still knows a great song when he writes — or hears — it.“Well, we all know it when we hear it,” said Sting.
Mike Wass Until now, global success for K-pop acts has mostly come through massive conglomerates like YG Entertainment and HYBE. That all changed when indie label Attrakt (stylized as ATTRAKT) rolled out an innovative campaign for their nascent girl group Fifty Fifty (stylized FIFTY FIFTY) centered on highlighting the members’ individual talents and reaching as many fans as possible by releasing multiple versions of their new single “Cupid.” An English language version of the song — dubbed the “Twin Version” — went nuclear on TikTok and Fifty Fifty found themselves with a global hit. This week, “Cupid” surges to No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100, making them only the second K-pop girl group to crack the top 20 after Blackpink.

Katie Reul editor A brand new trailer for “Oppenheimer,” the upcoming film from director Christopher Nolan, was released Monday by Universal Pictures in anticipation of the feature’s July debut. Set to a dramatic score from Ludwig Göransson, the newly-dropped teaser offers closer looks at the key players of the Manhattan Project, as portrayed by a star-studded cast including Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Leslie Groves Jr. and Tom Conti, who appears briefly as a somber looking Albert Einstein. “Oppenheimer” centers around the legacy of J. Robert Oppenheimer (Murphy), who is credited as the inventor of the atomic bomb. Based on the biographical novel “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer,” the film follows the physicist as he works alongside a team of government scientists to develop nuclear weapons in the early 1940s.
Mike Wass “Cupid” by Fifty Fifty (stylized as FIFTY FIFTY) has become the little K-pop song that could. Released by independent label Attrakt (stylized as ATTRAKT), the irresistibly bouncy lament on modern love has grown into a crossover phenomenon on the back of organic social media virality, clever marketing and a “Twin Version” in English. So far, “Cupid” has peaked at No. 4 on Spotify’s Global 200 and on YouTube’s Global Top Songs chart, and No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. And that’s before Warner Records, who recently picked up the banger for North America, takes it to radio. So where did Fifty Fifty and their seemingly unstoppable hit come from? In order to compete with major power players like HYBE and YG Entertainment, Attrakt — under the guidance of K-pop svengali Sung-Il Ahn (known as SIAHN) — tore up the rulebook. Realizing they lacked the financial resources and corporate infrastructure of their competitors, the indie label opted for innovation.
