‘FBOY Island’ Picked Up by The CW After HBO Max Cancellation, ‘FGIRL Island’ Spin-Off Planned

The CW has released trailers for its new series for the 2023-24 season: the AMC Studios-produced drama 61st Street; Canadian series Children Ruin Everything, Run the Burbs, Son of a Critch, The Spencer Sisters and Sullivan’s Crossing; UK series Everyone Else Burns; documentary film series I Am; reality series Fboy Island; and German eco-thriller drama series The Swarm. With a light-hearted, feel-good lineup of programming that includes The Spencer Sisters and Sullivan’s Crossing on the schedule for fall, the addition of dating show FBoy Island to the CW’s 2023-2024 schedule feels more than just a little incongruous.

The CW revealed three more unscripted series after presenting its fall schedule.

The CW has put together a fall schedule full of international series and unscripted formats alongside scripted returner All American, while Walker is moving to midseason.

The CW’s fall primetime schedule, we’re getting a true look at what the Nexstar era of The CW entails. The network’s new schedule only includes two returning scripted originals — Season 6 of “All American” and Season 4 of “Walker.” The network’s typical youth-focused programming has been replaced by seven new and more adult-oriented originals. Say goodbye to DC superheroes and cute fashion dramas and hello to half-hour comedies about raising kids.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter ABC has canceled the drama series “Alaska Daily,” “Big Sky,” and “The Company You Keep,” Variety has learned. Hilary Swank starred in “Alaska Daily” series as Eileen Fitzgerald, described as “a fiercely talented and award-winning investigative journalist who leaves her high-profile New York life behind after a fall from grace to join a daily metro newspaper in Anchorage on a journey to find both personal and professional redemption.” In addition to Swank, the series starred Jeff Perry as Stanley Cornik, Matt Malloy as Bob Young, Meredith Holzman as Claire Muncy, Grace Dove as Rosalind “Roz” Friendly, Pablo Castelblanco as Gabriel Tovar, Ami Park as Yuna Park, and Craig Frank as Austin Teague.

Showtime’s The Chi is the latest series whose production has been disrupted by the ongoing writers strike. According to sources, the hit drama, which is based in Chicago, filmed Friday morning before moving to another location, which had a picket line already in place.

MBC Readies Arab ‘Million Dollar Island’

BreAnna Bell “Fboy Island” is officially moving to The CW. The network has ordered a third season of the reality dating series as well as a new spinoff, “Fgirl Island.” The news comes after the series was canceled by HBO Max after the release of Season 2, along with several other original unscripted shows. “With its innovative and modern twist on the reality dating genre, incredibly talented host Nikki Glaser, and truly unforgettable title, ‘Fboy Island’ on The CW is a perfect match,” commented Olander. “Along with our partners at STXtelevision, we look forward to growing the franchise on The CW with the gender-flipping spinoff ‘Fgirl Island’ and cannot wait to introduce the next generation of FBoys and FGirls to existing fans as well as a new broadcast audience.”

The CW has confirmed that it is going on a date with FBoy Island and its female spinoff FGirl Island.

HBO Max canceled the series after Season 1 aired last year. New Cadence Prods. has reclaimed the streaming and international rights to the 10 episodes and is seeking a new home for the show that revolves around a large, multicultural and multigenerational Latino family. HBO Max still had nine years left on its license for Season 1 of “The Garcias” after dropping the series. New Cadence, headed by “The Garcias” co-creator/showrunner Jeff Valdez and investor Sol Trujillo, struck a deal with HBO Max that gives them the ability to produce new episodes of the series and sell the existing episodes to a rival outlet. New Cadence’s deal with HBO Max already was structured so as to ensure that the company retained long-term ownership of “The Garcias” outright.

HBO and HBO Max (which is now dubbed “Max”) have been making a lot of decisions about their renewals and cancellations in 2023 so far.

The critically-acclaimed HBO Max comedy series “The Other Two” returns with its third season next month. Starring Heléne Yorke, Drew Tarver, Case Walker, and Molly Shannon, the show was created by former “Saturday Night Live” co-head writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider.
