Jean Smart Shares the One Role She’d Love to Revisit: ‘I Would Kill to Play a Part Like That Again’

Emily Longeretta Ahead of her Hollywood Walk of Fame honor, icon Jean Smart looked back at some of her incredible roles — including the one that put her on the map globally. In 1985, she joined CBS’ “Designing Women” as Charlene Frazier Stillfield, a role she held for five seasons. The sitcom earned 18 Emmy nominations and catapulted Smart’s career — and she completely knows why.“There weren’t a lot of shows that were just about women back then. Linda [Bloodworth-Thomason] is such a good writer that she made the characters so distinct from each other,” she says.

Father John Misty Brings ‘Chloe’ to Its Ultimate Destination — New York’s Opulent Rainbow Room: Concert Review

Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor“The only way that this could be more elegant,” said Father John Misty as he surveyed the crowd in New York’s legendary Rainbow Room, a venue that epitomizes elegance, “is if we had three tables heaped with shrimp cocktails.”He wasn’t wrong. The opulent venue, opened in 1934 and located on the 65th floor of 30 Rock, has multiple chandeliers, a sunken, circular dancefloor and a 15 or so floor-to-ceiling windows offering breathtaking views of Midtown Manhattan and beyond, with the Empire State Building’s nightly light show occasionally distracting from the performance onstage.

Father John Misty has shared the video for his ‘Chloë And The Next 20th Century’ track ‘Kiss Me (I Loved You)’ – watch below. The cinematic video is directed by David Raboy. It stars Annie Hamilton and Alexander Zuccaro as they spend the night at a bar as various drama unfolds around them. In a five-star review of ‘Chloë And The Next 20th Century’, NME’s Sophie Williams wrote: “Besides its flirtations with big band-style instrumentals, ‘Chloë And The Next 20th Century’ serves as a gorgeously crafted highlight reel of the singer’s many previous styles and guises, rather than a complete reinvention.“Much of it is delivered with a wink, and is as dramatically brooding as his past work; every track is vivid yet still quietly dark as it conjures various kinds of lamentation.”A deluxe edition of the new album includes a set of bonus seven-inch singles.

Father John Misty Takes to the Bandstand — and Makes a Sad Stand — on ‘Chloe and the Next 20th Century’: Album Review

Chris Willman Music WriterThe artist formerly known as Josh Tillman has taken fans through some twists before, but “Father John Misty: big band leader” is probably not a curve very many saw coming as a career development in 2022. The eclectic singer-songwriter certainly hasn’t been shy about employing orchestration before, to the point of bringing his own sizable string section out on tour on his last pre-pandemic outing, probably at considerable personal expense.
