A world record-breaking Scots family are set to take on a gruelling 2000-mile challenge over land and sea to raise money for charity. Brothers Ewan, Jamie and Lachlan Maclean alongside their dad Charles Maclean MBE are planning to visit all 120 distilleries across Scotland to raise money for the Maclean Foundation.
The foundation was founded by the brothers to raise funds for clean water projects in developing countries. The brothers previously spent 35 days at sea in 2020, raising more than £205,000 when they became the first three brothers to row any ocean and broke the record for the fastest and youngest trio to row across the Atlantic Ocean.
Now the trio are planning to cycle over 2000 miles by bike and swim 150 nautical miles across challenging water to visit every distillery in Scotland. Youngest brother Lachlan, who now lives in Glasgow says the challenge was inspired after the brothers became ill after drinking dirty in Madagascar, he said: "When we returned from our trip, the importance of clean water became clear. When we got ill, we had access to a free health service back home - Malagasy people don’t have that luxury."
The brothers had been out visiting the country, which is one of the poorest countries in Africa, to see clean water boreholes the foundation had funded when they became ill through contact with dirty water and were treated for parasitic worms.
He continued: “Clean water is something we all need to live. It is an essential building block to bringing communities out of poverty. Waterborne diseases typically kill more people each year than all forms of violence, with most of these deaths being children under the age of five.
“Through our Foundation, we will help to widen access to the most basic
