Family of 'joyful' baby boy who died in Wythenshawe hospital told cardiac arrest could have been avoided

Hospital staff caring for a baby boy who died after he caught a virus could have raised his deteriorating condition with senior doctors sooner and the cardiac arrest he suffered may have been avoided, an inquest has heard. Little Henry Kenworthy was just 18 months old when his life suddenly came to an end, days after he caught chest infection bronchiolitis and was admitted to Wythenshawe hospital, on March 3, 2019.
During his time in hospital, his condition 'spiralled' and he died two days later, on March 5. An inquest into his death has now heard how some of the actions of the hospital staff were delayed - and how the cardiac arrest he suffered may have been preventable.
The inquest into the death of the 'happy and joyful' youngster continued for another day at Manchester Coroner's Court today. Mum Nicola said she wanted people to remember her son Henry, who also suffered from genetic disorder Noonan Syndrome, was a 'real person', adding: "He was a really funny, happy and joyful little boy. He was wonderful and cheeky."

And despite his underlying conditions, his mum said he was 'just a normal 18-month-old boy' who was active, healthy and progressing well. On Wednesday, the inquest heard that Henry had been assessed by doctors at the hospital on March 3 after he had 'started with a cough' and was having difficulties breathing.
The following day, Henry, who also suffered from heart condition hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, was brought back into hospital, where Paediatric Specialist Registrar Dr. Jalisatgi gave him high flow oxygen, IV fluids and antibiotics.
