Police and Trading Standards seized £1m of fake designer gear and arrested a man during a raid of storage units in East Kilbride.
The joint operation saw officials acting under search warrants seize a huge quantity of counterfeit clothing, shoes and accessories from units in the South Lanarkshire town on Wednesday, Nov 9. The goods were estimated to have a value in excess of £1 million.
The 'large scale' operation saw items mimicking top designer brands like Ugg and North Face in the lead-up to Christmas. A 61-year-old man was arrested.
Detective Sergeant Graham McAdam, Police Scotland, said: “This is a great example of partnership working which has led to a substantial recovery of what is believed to be counterfeit merchandise in the lead-up to Christmas. “We will continue to work with partners to disrupt those involved in this type of criminality.”
A spokesperson for Trading Standards Scotland said: "This type of action is aimed at protecting consumers and legitimate businesses by preventing the sale of counterfeit products throughout Scotland, especially in the run up to the festive period when shoppers may be looking for a bargain.
"Working closely with brand representatives, the recovered products will now be examined and a range of enforcement outcomes will be considered."
