been struggling with her health for months on Emmerdale. Mood swings that led her to feeling incredibly angry or depressed, coupled with painful and heavy periods, led to Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) prescribing the pill to the troubled teen. This helped to manage the periods, but the mood swings continued and, if anything, got worse.
Cathy put herself in danger with her reckless behaviour, while everyone around her was treading on eggshells not knowing how to deal with her. It’s now thought she has something called Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, an extreme form of PMS that could affect her for decades – and discovering this diagnosis hit Cathy hard. Apart from Cathy, the person who’s been most affected by all this has been her dad, Bob (Tony Audenshaw).
His attempts to support his daughter have often gone wrong and made things worse – and this happens again in upcoming episodes. Cathy is once again behaving in a way that worries Bob, this time by drinking heavily to the point that she makes herself sick as she goes on a vodka binge with the equally troubled (though for vastly different reasons) Marshall (Max Fletcher). Cathy’s health problems are compounded by the fact that, until she gets a formal diagnosis, she won’t be granted an access arrangement for additional support at school.
Her head teacher suggests deferring a year, but Cathy is absolutely against the idea. With all of this brewing for poor Cathy Bob does his best to be supportive but once again manages to say the wrong thing and Cathy lashes out angrily at him, accidentally cutting his face with her keys as she does so. After Cathy has had time to calm down Bob tries to reassure her that everything is okay and gives her a hug.
