Scotland is set to be blasted with 72 hours of snow with temperatures plummeting as we enter the summer months.
After a weekend where the majority of Scotland has seen glorious sunshine during the Easter weekend, the country is now facing freezing conditions with weather maps showing purple - indicating snow - covering much of the country.
According to WXCharts, the first of the snow will begin to appear on April 2 around 3am with it set to gather around Fort William. The maps show that flurries will continue until 6am on April 5 - exactly three days later.
Areas such as Inverness, Wick, Portree, and Fort William could see snowfall up to one centimetre per hour, according to the weather charts. While minimum temperatures will be close to zero during this period.
On April 3, the majority of the country will be hit with areas further south being cover with snow including Glasgow, Ayr and Edinburgh.
According to the Mirror, the reason for this is due to a low pressure system moving in from the Atlantic. This has lead to snow where it hits colder air moving down from the north. In Over the coming days the country will see more weather fronts moving in from the Atlantic which will bring further rain.
BBC weather forecaster Tomasz Schafernaker said: "If we look at the outlook for the next few days, smaller lows embedded within this larger vortex will be sweeping its way, here are the weather fronts, the blue is obviously the rain, stronger winds as well. So the next few days the outlook is looking pretty wet after what has been an already very wet March in many parts of the UK."
