Brits are being warned about a new disease that could potentially "cause 20 times more deaths than Covid-19".
According to World Health Organisation (WHO) boss Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the world is not prepared for "Disease X". The unidentified illness more of an experiment than a real threat at this stage, with its symptoms, rate of spread and even the type of germ causing it still unknown.
However, experts believe it could result in far more fatalities than the coronavirus pandemic. This hypothetical condition has been listed as a priority disease by the WHO, alongside viruses like SARS, Ebola and Zika.
The term 'Disease X' was discussed at this year's World Economic Forum, where global health was a key topic. Representatives from AstraZeneca and WHO participated in a panel titled 'Preparing for Disease X.

Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert, from the University of Oxford's Pandemic Sciences Institute, has said that Disease X is one of many future pandemic threats being studied by scientists. She added that this unknown germ could be a zoonotic virus which can jump from animals to humans.
John-Arne Rttingen, a Norwegian scientist and WHO special advisor has warned that these types of viruses pose 'probably the greatest risk' to global public health. Some experts believe that climate change could increase this risk.
The WHO thinks that Disease X will likely appear in tropical, low or middle-income countries, especially those already affected by climate change. This disease is now on WHO's list of priority diseases to watch out for.
