A touching tribute paid to late Friends actor Matthew Perry at the Emmy Awards has left fans of the show “bawling their eyes out.” Perry, 54, died on October 28, 2023 after he was found “unresponsive in the pool” at his Los Angeles home.
The 75th prestigious Emmy Awards took place on Monday night (January 15) in California after a delay from September due to industry strikes. The ceremony honours the best in television, so it came as no surprise that TV icon Matthew Perry received a “special tribute” last night.
While rumours surrounding a possible Friends cast reunion of Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer did not come true, a nod to the late actor was paid in a “heartwarming” way when the Emmy’s aired their ‘In Memoriam’ clip.

Other entertainers included in the Memoriam included Lesley Jordan, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, Andre Braugher, Angela Lansbury, Angus Cloud, and sadly many more.
Singer Charlie Puth, known for his emotional song ‘See You Again’ which was released in tribute to the late Fast and Furious star Paul Walker in 2015, began playing the touching tune as the in Memoriam began to play.
However, Puth, alongside musical duo The War and Treaty, transitioned the song into a solemn rendition of the Friends theme song - ‘I’ll Be There for You’ by The Rembrandts.
Fans of Perry, who is best known for playing Chandler Bing in the 90’s sitcom, rushed to social media admitting “they were not ready” for the sweet tribute.
