Late Emmerdale star Dale Meeks returned to TV for a final time just days before he died at the age of 47. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Dale, who portrayed Simon Meredith from 2003 to 2005, had passed away. While the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, tributes for the star have poured in from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.
Dale made his final TV appearance last week when he appeared in the three-part ITV drama, The Hunt for Raoul Moat. The show follows “the police operation in 2010 to apprehend fugitive Raoul Moat” after he fled to “Northumbria after killing one person and wounding two others.” Dale starred in two episodes of the show alongside Matt Stokoe as the titular villain, Angela Bain, Joe Blakemore, Sonya Cassidy, Neil Grainger, and Lee Ingleby. The late actor portrayed the villain’s close friend Rory Sutcliffe who told police officials: “He said you coppers done him in. He's coming for you...coppers." Dale took to social media last week to share his thoughts on the episode as he wrote: "Sadly watching tonight's episode from this equally mysterious and sinister location. It's fantastic to feel the love. Thanks gang.
Keep it coming xxx" as he posted a photo of a door but didn't go into further detail about his location.” The show seemingly went down a treat with fans, who applauded the approach to handling such a sensitive real-life case. “I watched the @ITV production ‘The hunt for Raoul Moat’ this week. It’s worth a watch, so glad to see that they didn’t overplay the awful and misplaced sympathy Moat was given on social media. This was a planned 8 Stages homicide,” one person wrote on Twitter.
