Emmerdale is celebrating 50 years of being on ITV screens this year and has a series of explosive and gripping episodes airing to mark the occasion. In the five decades the show’s been on air, a lot has happened and it’s seen many characters come and go. Not all of those characters who appeared on the soap made it out alive and some found themselves buried in the chilling real life graveyard found on set.
As part of ITV’s official outdoor set tour visit, fans of the show are able to see the sites of the famous village and remember characters both past and present. Situated around 30 minutes from Leeds, fans will find themselves getting acquainted with iconic haunts such as The Woolpack, the cafe, the B&B as well as St Mary’s Church and the accompanying graveyard. Over the 50 memorable years that the show has been on air, there have been a number of fan favourites who have been laid to rest at the graveyard.
Val Pollard, played by Charlie Hardwick, was buried in one of the more extravagant graves following her untimely death when she was struck by a shard of glass. Fans can also see the headstone of Tricia Dingle, Marlon’s former wife, who died in 2004 as a result of a huge storm that rocked the village. Her headstone reads: "Beloved wife of Marlon Dingle and devoted granddaughter and daughter." Legendary Alan Turner is also laid to rest in the graveyard following his passing in 2013.

Emmerdale's Charles Anderson actor Kevin Mathurin has revealed the way bosses tell cast members if their characters are set to be killed off on the hit ITV soap. The actor, 49, first joined the village in 2020 as Vicar Charles and has since been part of several explosive storylines. Currently, Kevin's character Charles is part of the ITV soap's 50th anniversary storm week, where the vicar is currently lost and stranded in the woods with Nicola King.
Emmerdale fans were delighted earlier this week when Diane Sugden made a return to the Yorkshire village. It may only be a temporary comeback but it came at the perfect time, ahead of the ITV soap's 50th anniversary and Sally Dexter's last scenes as Faith Dingle.
