Emma Thompson was joined by her daughter Gaia, 22, and husband Greg Wise at the premiere of Matila The Musical at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Wednesday. The actress, 63, who plays Miss Trunchbull in the film, cut a stylish figure as she walked the red carpet alongside her fellow co-stars. Emma donned a beige leather jacket for the evening with a tassel detail which she wore with black trousers.
The film star also sported a white printed T-shirt and added height to her frame with a pair of black leather boots. Emma, who completed her look with dark brown earrings, grinned from ear-to-ear as she was greeted by hundreds of fans who lined the red carpet. Gaia looked incredible in a black midi dress with a floral print which she wore with a pair of black heels.
The budding actress let her brunette locks fall loose down her shoulders and added to her look with a silver necklace. Greg looked dapper in a black blazer and matching trousers which he paired with a beige patterned top. The outing comes after Emma recently joked she's been dropping hints that her offspring could 'run a restaurant' instead.
She told the Daily Mail's Eden Confidential: 'I keep saying, "I know you like acting, but, you know, perhaps running a restaurant can be as exciting. "'Emma added of the talented cook: 'There's something very theatrical about restaurants — when you get it right, you feel so happy and lucky to be in it. The 1998 children’s novel follows a precocious young girl who discovers she has superpowers and uses them to take charge of her destiny against the likes of her rotten headmaster, Miss Trunchbull. Movie fans of a certain generation will remember the 1996 film, but the book also became an award-winning musical in 2010.
Following its debut as the opening night gala at the London Film Festival last week, Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical now has an official trailer – check it out above.
Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer Hong Chau has joined the cast of the anticipated new film from “The Favourite” and “The Lobster” director Yorgos Lanthimos. Chau, who has been prolific in recent years, joins a stacked ensemble featuring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley. Plot details are (frustratingly) under wraps from the Greek master of subversion, who has also given us “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “Dogtooth.” Lanthimos directs from a script he wrote with Efthimis Filippou (reuniting after both “Lobster” and “Sacred Deer”). Searchlight Pictures is financing and distributing the project with Element Pictures and Film4. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element, Kasia Malipan and Lanthimos are producing. Principal photography begins this month in Chau’s native New Orleans.
