Ethan Shanfeld As she stares down the barrel of an 11-year prison sentence, Theranos fraudster Elizabeth Holmes unveiled her new persona — Liz Holmes, the remorseful and soft-spoken mother of two — in an interview with The New York Times. In the profile, which received backlash online by those critical of the paper’s willingness to give Holmes a platform, the Theranos founder reflected on how the media has portrayed her. Amanda Seyfried won an Emmy for playing Holmes in the Hulu miniseries “The Dropout,” and Jennifer Lawrence was set to embody the same role in a movie directed by Adam McKay. She has since dropped out of the project. “They’re not playing me,” Holmes said of the actors who have donned her signature black turtleneck and red lipstick. “They’re playing a character I created.”
Holmes told the Times that she created this persona because “I believed it would be how I would be good at business and taken seriously and not taken as a little girl or a girl who didn’t have good technical ideas. Maybe people picked up on that not being authentic, since it wasn’t.” Hulu had no comment when asked by Variety about the possibility of a follow-up to “The Dropout” based on more recent developments. Holmes founded the doomed medical startup firm Theranos at age 19 with the promise of a revolutionary blood-testing device that could detect a wide range of illnesses with just a finger prick. She quickly became one of the world’s most-celebrated tech leaders and the youngest self-made female billionaire. Then, when a Wall Street Journal investigation questioned whether her flagship technology actually worked, Holmes found herself at the center of one of the biggest corporate fraud scandals in history. In November 2022, Holmes

Ahead of its debut, Apple TV+ shared the official trailer following a first-look reveal at the star-studded cast and premiere date announcement for the 10-part season in April. In the upcoming thriller created by Goldsman, Holland, who also serves as an executive producer, plays a man named Danny Sullivan, who is arrested following his involvement in a 1979 shooting in New York City. Told through a series of interviews conducted by a curious interrogator, Rya Goodwin (Seyfried), the story of Danny's life unfolds, revealing how elements of his past shaped his future, including the twists and turns that led him to a life-altering incident. Rossum, meanwhile, plays Danny's mother, Candy, while the rest of the cast is rounded out by Sasha Lane, Will Chase and Lior Raz as well as guest stars Jason Isaacs, Christopher Abbott, Thomas Sadoski and Zachary Golinger. In the trailer, released Wednesday, Holland's Danny opens by reflecting on a traumatic night from his past that he says «marked me.» «Everything that came afterwards couldn't be a coincidence, could it?» he questions. When Danny meets Rya in a sparse room, she comments that he «doesn't seem like a dangerous person.» But there's always more to what meets the eye as it flashes back to the moment a burly man suddenly shows up and saves Danny from trouble, taking him in as one of his own.As Rya tries to get to the bottom of a shooting that Danny is involved in and a prime suspect, details of whatever transpired start to come out and suspicion grows around him.
Sophia Scorziello editor Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for “The Crowded Room,” a psychological thriller series starring Tom Holland, Amanda Seyfried and Emmy Rossum. Based on the crimes of Billy Milligan, the show was created by Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the 2001 film “A Beautiful Mind,” and is inspired by Daniel Keyes’s 1981 non-fiction novel, “The Minds of Billy Milligan.” Set in the heat of Manhattan in the summer of 1979, “The Crowded Room” follows the arrest of Danny Sullivan (Holland) for his involvement in a shooting at Rockefeller Center. Danny works with investigator Rya Goodwin (Seyfried), who leads him to recall the past that drove him to commit his crimes.
Tom Holland might be a superhero and “Spider-Man,” but perhaps rather wisely, the young actor understands he won’t be young forever and knows he needs to create an acting pipeline outside of just Marvel. He’s already done work like that with the Russo Brothers in “Cherry,” and the next project in that vein is “The Crowded Room,” a gripping, upcoming Apple TV+ limited series starring and executive produced by Holland and created by Academy Award-winning writer and executive producer Akiva Goldsman.

Elizabeth Holmes is weighing in on the hoarse, baritone voice and unique persona she's become so famous for in media portrayals and the public consciousness. In an in-depth new profile of the embattled tech entrepreneur published by the on Sunday, Holmes addressed the public persona she's become famous for — including her black turtleneck sweaters, bright red lipstick and husky, throaty idiosyncratic voice.According to Holmes, the very things she's now famous for were actually all an affectation she was putting on in an effort to be taken more seriously when looking for startup capital to fund her now-infamous tech company, Theranos.Because of this — and her effort to cast off the shackles of her past before putting on actual shackles in her impending prison sentence — Holmes says that she's not really bothered by several high-profile recent portrayals of her in the media. This apparently includes Amanda Seyfried's Emmy-winning portrayal in the Hulu series , based on Holmes' rise and fall. As well as a project in the works from director Adam McKay in which Jennifer Lawrence was in talks to star as Holmes, although she has since dropped out.«They’re not playing me,» Holmes said of all the portrayals she's seen of herself, without directly naming any particular actors.
