An elderly woman has been left ‘trapped’ in her top floor new-build flat after being left without a lift for nearly three weeks, her son claims.
Muriel Hendrie, 77, has been stuck without lift access to her recently completed one-bed apartment at Carrick Street’s Beattie Close in Ayr - a 31 new home development located in the heart of Ayr town centre, across from the Gaiety Theatre.
Muriel’s son Lee Hendrie, who also lives in Ayr, raised the complaint on behalf of his mum, who moved into the development, run by Ayrshire Housing, just a few weeks ago.
But shortly after moving in, the lift broke leaving Muriel and other residents on the top floor without elevator access.
Lee, who along with his sister have been tackling five flights of stairs to deliver groceries to their mum, said: “Since she moved in, after the first day the lift stopped working.
“All the residents in the building have been told that it was getting sorted but we’re into the third week now and it’s still not fixed.
“She’s away on the top floor, it’s five flights of stairs and she’s 77 - she’s trapped, she can’t get out or in.
“It’s ridiculous. It’s been a nightmare for her since she moved in.”
Lee said his mum and other residents were told the lift would be fixed between Monday and Wednesday last week, but as Friday came and went, there was no sign of the necessary repairs being carried out.
Lee said: “I phoned them up and they said they weren’t sure when it was going to be fixed as they’re waiting on a part.
“They’ve all been looking forward to moving in, it’s a lovely building and a great view at the top, but it’s just all these problems.
“If they’re going to have to wait two to three weeks for the lift getting sorted every time it breaks, then they’re never going
