Edgar Burcksen Dies: Emmy-Winning Editor, ILM Alum & Former ACE Board Member Was 76

Mike Pinder, who co-founded the Moody Blues and played keyboards and mellotron and sang on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group’s first nine albums, died Wednesday at his home in Northern California. He was 82 and was the last surviving founding member of the legendary British band.

Rico Wade, part of the production group Organized Noize and the founding member of the Dungeon Family collective, has died at 52. No location or cause of death has been disclosed.

Eleanor Coppola, who won an Emmy for the Apocalypse Now documentary Hearts of Darkness, directed Paris Can Wait and Love Is Love Is Love and was married to Francis Ford Coppola for 61 years, diedFriday at her home in Rutherford, CA. She was 87.

Lexi Carson Ron Weiner, a television director at WGN Chicago for 25 years and three-time Daytime Emmy-winning director for talkshow “Donahue,” died on March 18 in Baltimore, Md. He was 93. Weiner directed shows including “Donahue,” “An Evening With B.B.

Kevin Costner has been working on “Horizon: An American Saga,” for the past 30 years. The story, which is split in four films, has been the passion project of his life. Costner’s 15 year old son, Hayes, was named after his character in the film, and has served as a reminder to never give up on the project.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent In what looks to be another robust year in the making, the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will bring together several iconic filmmakers, including Francis Ford Coppola with “Megalopolis” starring Adam Driver, George Miller with “Furiosa” starring Anya Taylor-Joy, as well as George Lucas who will be feted with an honorary Palme d’Or. Kevin Costner will also be on hand with the first installment of his Western epic “Horizon, an American Saga.” Hollywood may have a lighter presence due to a combination of factors – including last year’s actors and writers strikes, which created production delays, as well as a tough economy — but this year’s festival will see no shortage of glamor and stars on the red carpet.

Selena Kuznikov Edgar Burcksen, longtime editor of features, documentaries, and TV series, died Sunday in Los Angeles of complications of a heart attack. He was 76. Burcksen won an Emmy for editing the pilot of “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles” as well as an ACE Robert Wise award.
