With just weeks left to go until Strictly Come Dancing returns to our screens, the fifth star hoping to scoop the glitter ball trophy has been revealed to be Eddie Kadi. Recognised as one of the most globally celebrated stand up comedians, British-Congolese star Eddie is hoping to impress the judges in the coming weeks with his fancy footwork and expert showmanship.The exciting news he would be competing was revealed on Sunday, 6 August on his live radio show for BBC 1Xtra, The Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi.
Speaking about his participation in the show, Eddie said: “WOW. Anyone who knows me, understands that music and dance is so important and central to who I am." He then continued: "I’m so unbelievably proud and honoured that Strictly and the BBC have asked me to join the 2023 Team.
I promise you, I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.This is going to be a VIBE." Eddie is now the fifth star taking to the Strictly stage later this Autumn, with the announcement coming just days after the first three stars to compete, Amanda Abbington, Angela Rippon and Layton Williams were revealed on The One Show. Interestingly, Angela Rippon's participation also sees her break a brand new Strictly record, as she is 78 years old - the oldest star to ever compete in the series.
However this hasn't appeared to deter her in the slightest, as the athletic star has previously even turned her hand to ice dancing on ITV's Dancing on Ice in recent years and has often spoken about her love of keeping fit in her twilight years. Appearing on The One Show, Angela revealed the first thing she asked the BBC show when they approached her was “why didn’t they ask me 10 years ago”.
