Mark Sutherland February in the U.K. music industry is traditionally dominated by the BRIT Awards, and this year the ceremony returned to its customary slot, having been forced to move to May in 2021 by the pandemic. But, despite resuming its rightful place in the calendar with a star-studded line-up including Adele, Ed Sheeran and Liam Gallagher, the event posted its lowest-ever TV ratings with 2.7 million tuning in, down from 2.9m last year. However, bosses won’t be too concerned because, as in the U.S., TV ratings only tell part of the story: The ceremony also reported record digital engagement under chairman Tom March’s multi-platform plan.

Brit Awards moments you may have missed – from Little Mix snub to Idris' wardrobe malfunction

After last year's scaled back show, The Brit Awards 2022 went all out to give memorable performances and some incredible celebrity moments. Adele, 33, stole the show as she performed her now iconic I Drink Wine, picked up three gongs and tearfully dedicated her wins to her ex Simon Konecki, 47, and their son Angelo, nine. And who wouldn't notice the giant pear-shaped rock she had on her ring finger – sparking speculation that she's set to marry her boyfriend Rich Paul, 40, just weeks after it was reported they could be in trouble? We also saw Anne-Marie remind everyone of 63 year old Madonna's epic fall back in 2015, but the 30 year old Friends hitmaker quickly picked herself up and continued the performance, gaining much praise for doing so.

Inside the 2022 Brit Awards as Adele and Ed Sheeran Battle for U.K. Supremacy

Mark Sutherland If last year’s Brit Awards went out with something of a COVID-restricted whimper, this year’s ceremony came in with a bang.Several bangs in fact, as an unexpected mash-up between emo-metal hybrid Bring Me The Horizon and Ed Sheeran on the latter’s “Bad Habits” launched the show to, no doubt, the bewilderment of mums and dads tuning in at home and expecting the nice, ginger-next-door they usually see at events like this. The arena, however, was ablaze — quite literally, as the unlikely collaborators became the first of several performers to torch the stage.Held at The O2 Arena in south London, this year’s Brits — unlike last year’s event — took place in a country that is largely free of COVID restrictions.
