EastEnders' pub landlord Mick Carter welcomed Princes Charles and Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla to Albert Square in a special episode in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Charles and Camilla are seen surprising the residents of Walford after Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) decides to throw a street party for the Square in celebration of the monarch’s 70 year reign – in scenes set to air on Thursday 2 June. In scenes on the BBC soap, Walford's royal fans are left in disbelief when the Prince of Wales and future Queen Consort pull up in a car outside The Queen Vic pub, greeted by Mick and and huge royal fan Linda Carter (Kellie Bright).
Danny then greets the couple as he says: “Welcome to Walford.” In the episode, Charles is introduced to Walford resident Martin Fowler (James Bye). Martin explains the history of his market stall dating back generations in his family who have lived on the Square. Charles tells Martin: “That’s the wonderful thing about London, all the different markets and stalls where people inherit them over the generations.” The Prince of Wales the turns to Mick's daughter Frankie Lewis (Rose Ayling-Ellis).
He says: “You lip-read very well”. Charles is full of compliments as he tells Jack Branning (Scott Maslen): “I don’t know how you keep this lot in order.” Camilla is seen shaking hands with popular extra and market stall holder Shrimpy (Ben Champniss) while a “speechless” Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) watches on in awe. She is then introduced to “legend of the square” Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) and points out the “nice little bottle” of rum from Trinidad that Patrick is holding.
