As the residents of Albert Square continued to reel on Wednesday following the news of Nish Panesar’s arrest, there was more drama afoot for another family aside from the Panesar’s, when Stacey Slater found herself in a sticky situation with daughter Lily. As regular viewers will know, Stacey has been struggling to afford her bills in recent weeks, which meant that for pregnant daughter Lily’s upcoming birthday, she was having to cut back on any chance of a lavish or big present for the teen. The news came as somewhat of a blow to Lily, who had begged her mum to buy her a pair of new trainers to mark the special occasion.
Forced to admit that they were too extravagant a purchase, Stacey quickly shot down the idea of buying something so expensive - but just a few short hours later, a pair of the exact trainers Lily had requested somehow found their way into her daughter’s possession thanks to teacher Theo Hawthorne. Later in the episode however, Theo approached Lily as she was placing rubbish in the bin outside her home and urged her to take the gift against her mother’s wishes. Initially refusing, Theo persisted, and even rationalised it by saying he was “throwing them away” in the bin and if she “happened to pick them up” she wouldn’t have done anything wrong.
Accepting this logic, Lily disobeyed her mum and accepted the gift, prompting Theo to ominously tell her: “It’ll be our little secret,” before he walked off. Fans at home were quick
