Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has highlighted the sheer size of the challenge awaiting new manager Erik ten Hag this summer, insisting it will require "major surgery."

The Dutchman watched United's Premier League final day defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park from the stands, giving him an insight into just how big the task is that lies ahead. Big changes are expected to be made this summer, with as many as 10 players potentially leaving United.

And for former United striker Yorke, who recently landed his first job in management, taking charge of Australian outfit Macarthur FC, it is going to require major changes to turn the club around. Yorke was recently in Manchester for the Legends of the North fixture with Liverpool and discovered some insight into what has gone wrong at Old Trafford.
"We [Manchester United] are nowhere near where we are supposed to be, especially with the players that we have in the squad at the moment," said Yorke, as quoted by France 24. "I spent the last two weeks there and had some more insight into looking where the club is and why we are in that position.
"He's [Ten Hag] got some major surgery to repair there, there's work that needs to be done."
