‘Dune’ animated series in development, says crypto group

The studio sci-fi epic “Dune” not only impressed critics and audiences alike, but it also got on the radar of the Academy Awards earlier this week. The dramatic space opera earned an impressive ten Academy Award nominations, only being beaten by “The Power of The Dog,” which nabbed twelve.

The Blade Runner universe is being brought to the small-screen!

Dune has racked up an impressive 10 Oscar nominations, including the coveted nod for Best Picture. Despite the film’s recognition, one nomination was notably absent: a Best Director slot for Denis Villeneuve. The French-Canadian filmmaker handled the alleged snub with grace, but Dune actor Josh Brolin was definitely not happy with the Academy.

In case, you were living under a rock, the 2022 Oscar nominations were announced on Monday, earlier this week. Award nominations can be polarizing, and others get upset for people seen as getting snubbed.

“It’s so great for representation and it’s also grounded in normalization,” says Naomi star Kaci Walfall of the barrier breaking CW superhero series from Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship. “So it’s a story that is just about a 16-year old girl whose Black, who happens to be a superhero and I think that is supercool ‘cause it’s not something we see, it’s not something we see,” Walfall added.

Last year, director Ridley Scott shocked “Blade Runner” fans with the announcement that a live-action series was in the works at rights holders Alcon. Scott stopped short of giving concrete details about the series’ setting or where it would air.
